Sacked judges to be reinstated

Some 60 suprerme court judges sacked by Pakistan's president Pervez Musharraf are to be reinstated. The announcement by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif comes after talks in Dubai with Asif Ali Zardari, the leader of the Pakistan People's Party of assassinated premier Benazir Bhutto.

Pakistan's former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has announced that the ruling coalition will reinstate on May 12th senior judges sacked by Pervez Musharraf.

The government is to introduce a parliamentary resolution to restore some 60 judges dismissed by Musharraf under a state of emergency in November.

The judges will include the country's chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudry who has vowed to rule Musharraf's re-election to the presidency illegal if he is re-elected.

Sharif made the announcement after holding talks in Dubai with coalition partner Asif Ali Zardari, the leader of the Pakistan People's Party, the PPP.

Sharif's party and the PPP pulled off a convincing win in elections in February and formed a coalition the following month.
