The photo in our banner is of the Zimbabwean dancer Nora Chipaumire who is the subject of one of the films showing in this year’s Fespaco.

The film is called simply Nora and is based on stories of Chipaumire, who was born in Mutare, Zimbabwe in 1965 but now lives in the US. In Nora, Chipaumire’s childhood is recounted through dance and music.

The film was choreographed by Chipaumire and directed by David Hinton and Alla Kovgan. The producer is Jean Frosch. It was shot just across the Zimbabwean border in Mozambique’s Manica province and much of the music was written especially for the film by Zimbabwe’s Thomas Mapfumo.
