Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai has been injured in a road traffic accident according to a spokesperson from Tsvangirai’s Movement for Democratic Change party. It is thought he escaped serious injury, although his wife was killed.

Tsvangirai’s vehicle was hit by a haulage truck near Beatrice according to a source at the MDC party.

He was travelling to his rural home in Buhera where he was to attend a rally on Saturday.

It is thought that Tsvangirai escaped serious injury, although his wife, Susan, was killed. The vehicle was also thought to be carrying an aide.

They were transferred to a hospital in Harare after the incident.

Tsvangirai married his wife Susan in 1978 and they have six children together.

The leader of the MDC formed a unity government with President Robert Mugabe three weeks ago, and delivered his first speech to parliament two days ago.
