The US-led coalition said that 17 Taliban militants died in Ghor province, in Afghanistan, on Tuesday, in a precision air strike. One of them is a commander, Mullah Mustafa, according to the coalition. Afghan police say that there were reports of civilian casualties.

Mustafa commanded about 100 men, and was killed in a remote area, the US military said.

It added that he had recently met with senior Taliban leaders, and reportedly had connections to the Iran's Revolutionary Guard. The US also said that Mustafa was responsible for attacks linking Ghor with Herat province, on the Iranian border.

Afghan police said that there were reports of civilian casualties, and that they were going to investigate them.
