A bomb exploded in a market in Baghdad on Friday, killing at least 13 people and wounding dozens. Next Tuesday, the US plans to pull troops out of urban areas in Iraq, and the Prime Minister has said that his country's security forces will be able to keep peace on their own.

The bomb went off in the city's Nahda district at about 9 am, as people gathered at a motorcycle market. About 50 people were wounded.

Two days earlier, one of the deadliest attacks this year in Iraq killed at least 62 people in northeast Baghdad at a market in the Shiite district of Sadr City. At least 150 people were wounded.

Nonetheless, the administration of US President Barack Obama has said it has no plans to cancel the urban area pullback. White House spokesperson Robert Gibbs denied on Thursday that Obama had second thoughts on the issue.

Also on Thursday, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki assured Iraqis of his country's "forces' readiness for the mission, despite some security violations." He also appealed to Iraqis to inform the army and police of any potential attacks.
