A signal from the Yemenia Airbus A310 which crashed off the Comoros last week has been picked up, according to Comoran and French investigators.

"Investigators from the BEA have detected a signal from the flight recorders," said the Comoros lead investigator Ali Abdou Mohamed in a statement Sunday.

An official from France's Analysis and Enquiries Bureau (BEA) confirmed that a signal had been picked up.

All but one of the 153 passengers died in the crash, last Tuesday. It has caused angry protests in the French city of Marseille, which is home to up to 100,000 people of Comoran origin.
