Mark Cavendish won his second stage in a row in the Tour de France's third stage on Monday. The 24-year-old Colombia rider edged out Thor Hushovd after a dramatic sprint to the line.
Switzerland's Fabian Cancellara still holds the yellow jersey given to the race leader but Lance Armstrong was the big mover, jumping from 10th to 3rd position.
Armstrong was able to keep in touch when the entire Columbia team raced clear to split the peleton with 30 kilometres left. Other contenders for the yellow jersey like Cadel Evans and Alberto Contador were unable to do likewise and Armstrong, the seven-time Tour winner, is now just 40 seconds off the pace.
