Tropical storm Parma remained about 60 kilometres of the coast of the northern Phillipines on Wednesday and brought more heavy rain to already flooded areas. The UN has launched an appeal for 50 million euros.

The government issued warnings for more landslides and flooding on Wednesday as the tropical storm remained off the coast of Luzon island.

Although aid agencies are using helicopters and boats to deliver aid, many areas remain inaccessible because of flooding.

The latest storms follow the devastation caused by Typhoon Ketsana.

The US military has mobilised aircraft to help relief efforts, while US President Barack Obama sent his condolences to the country and said he had set aside 1.2 million euros to help deal with the floods.

The UN has launched an appeal to raise 50 million euros in emergency assistance.
