A suicide attack in Peshawar, in the north-west of Pakistan, killed 12 people and injured 36 on Sunday.
A car-bomb exploded outside a house belonging to Abdul Malik, a regional mayor, killing him and a leader of a local anti-Taliban force, according to local police.
Among the dead are two children, according to hospital sources.
Abdul Malik was the mayor of Adizai, a suburb of Peshawar and had been close to the Taliban before recruiting people for a militia opposed to the Taliban.
Police say that Malik was outside his house with some visitors when the car was driven in front of the building and exploded.
Pakistani authorities have encouraged the establishment of anti-Taliban militias and police described Malika as extremely hostile to the Taliban.
