One of this week’s most-read articles was about the row between Colombia and Venezuela. A side item towards the bottom of the article about the US building seven military bases in Colombia for anti-drug operations caught the interest of Frank A in the United States.
“Only an idiot would believe that seven new US military bases are ‘needed’ in Colombia to fight the ‘war on drugs’,” he writes. “These US military bases will be used as a springboard to invade and occupy Venezuela, to control and steal their oil to feed our addiction to it.”
Another reader from the United States reacted to debates here in France over whether or not women should be allowed to wear burkas.
Barbara T from Indiana is “tickled” that France is “not so concerned about political correctness.”
“Thank you for standing tall and protecting your country's culture. As some of you have said: if burkas are the required dress for that culture and they do not wish to adapt to the local custom of dressing, then let them go home.”
