Windfarming in the north of France

Wind power is France's fastest-growing renewable energy source and thousands of huge white propellers are becoming a regular feature on the French landscape. We report from France's largest windfarm in the northern Pas de Calais region. The 2007 Grenelle environment accords pledged to increase wind capacity tenfold by 2020, thereby avoiding 16 million tonnes of carbon dioxide or the equivalent of 8 million cars. Reaching such ambitious goals will require 8,000 wind turbines, changing the French landscape in a big way.
