France's departments and territories across the world have come into focus lately because of ongoing strike movements in Guadeloupe and Martinique in the West Indies. While the strikes are about the high cost of living, there is a sense that the conflicts are about more than the economy. Sarah Elzas went to the opening seminar of a an anti-colonial week, where anti-racist activists explained that the problems in Guadeloupe and Martinique have their roots in the colonial history of France.
