Six people were killed in a car bomb attack on Friday at 20:00 local time in Peshawar, according to Pakistani media. Another 75 people were thought to be injured, in the capital of the North-West Frontier Province.

A car bomb exploded in the Kabuli marketplace by a cinema, damaging a number of nearby buildings. Vehicles parked nearby were also destroyed by the blast.

Peshawar, which is near to the Afghani border, has been subject to a number of attacks in recent times, and on Saturday 12 people, including women and children were killed in a car bomb attack in the Kashkal area.

Rescue teams have moved into the area, and the injured have been transferred to the Lady Reading hospital.

Meanwhile, government forces continue their offensive against Taliban militants in the Swat valley. Officials said that around 15,000 troops were sent to combat 4,000 militants.
