The Iron Curtain Diaries 1989-2009 is a report on the 7,000 kilometres of border which, 20 years ago, separated the West from the Communist bloc.

Two teams of journalists set out from Berlin, one for the port of Mourmansk in Russia, and the other for Bourgas in Bulgaria.

The documentary merges video, photo, audio and drawings. "The report was originally conceived just to become a multimedia documentary, but we knew that each of us could then re-use the constituent elements," says Angelo Miotto, creator and coordinator for the project.

The whole project was completed in four and a half months. "We worked like madmen, day and night, to finish in time for the anniversary [of the fall of the Berlin Wall]".
