A Pakistani army brigadier and his driver were killed on Thursday when gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire in broad daylight on the street in Islamabad, according to officials. Another officer has been wounded.

Gunfire from the insurgents peppered the jeep, spraying glass onto the road.

This is the second attack in the capital in 48 hours, after a suicide bomber killed five on Tuesday.

The attack on the officer occurred in the residential G11 district of the city. Security forces rushed to the scene, but the assailants got away on the motorbike.

There were no immediate claims of responsibility, but the Pakistani military have been the constant targetof Pakistani extremists.

Nearly two weeks ago militiants attacked an army headquarters in Rawalpindi. That was claimed by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
