Students trying to find somewhere to live at the start of a new academic year face many difficulties. They often do not have friends or family willing to put them up, or who do not manage to obtain a room in a university hall of residence and face a long and often fruitless search for cheap housing in the French capital. We visit a student squat in Paris, and talks to campaigners for the homeless, an estate agent, the head of the university halls of residence and an MP from France's ruling UMP party who is calling on the French government to build more cheap price student housing.
