A roadside bomb in Afghanistan killed eight civilians on Friday after it struck a station wagon, say officials.

The vehicle was travelling near the border with Pakistan in the Khwarano area of eastern Nangarhar province. No one has claimed responsibility for the explosion, in which seven men and one woman died.

Nangarhar is a relatively prosperous region of Afghanistan on a main highway between Kabul and the Pakistan border.
