This week's guest on the Club 9516 Sound Kitchen is singer Madeleine Peyroux. You'll hear music from her new album plus her favorite songs ... and of course, the news quiz.
Hello everyone, and happy 2010 from your new Club 9516/The Sound Kitchen host, Susan Owensby, and all of us here in the RFI English language service.
Here’s this week’s quiz question:
On 30 December the first Indonesian President to be elected after the fall of General Suharto died. He also headed the Nahdlatul Ulama, the country's largest Muslim organisation, which defended a traditional, tolerant form of Islam. This man was admired for his broad-minded approach to religion and politics … but his presidency ended amid unproved charges of corruption. Afterwards support for the party he founded, the National Awakening Party (PKB), declined to only five per cent in the 2009 general election.
Who was Indonesia’s first president - after Suharto, that is - and by what nickname was he known?
