RFI Seeks Hot New Musical Talent

Do you sing or play with a band in Africa or the Indian Ocean region? Are you a hot new solo artist just waiting to be discovered? Then Radio France Internationale wants to hear from you! Hurry, hurry, hurry! Read our competition rules and send off your CD/cassette … NOW !

Anyone wishing to enter RFI's "Découverte Afrique 99" contest should start getting their CD/cassette together right now - the closing date for entries is 30 April 1999 so you still have time to spring into action! RFI's "Découverte Afrique" competition, which in the past has helped hot new talents like Sally Nyolo, Habib Koïte and Chiwoniso to make a name for themselves on the international music scene, is open to any group or solo artist who has already released 1 CD or between 1 and 3 cassettes in their homeland (in Africa or the Indian Ocean region).

All you have to do to enter the competition is send a copy of your latest CD/cassette to RFI (see address below) together with a letter including your full address and phone number.

This year's lucky winner will receive a cash prize of 25,000 FF. Also on offer are 15,000 FF worth of prize money from the SACEM and a grant of 100,000 FF from the Ministère français des Affaires Etrangères/Coopération et Francophonie. The winner of "Découverte Afrique 99" will benefit from an international promotion campaign on RFI and the airwaves of its partner stations around the world. What's more, RFI will also help the winning artist/group to organise a tour of Africa and/or Europe, arranging a whole series of dates at festivals associated with the Découverte RFI operation.
