The United Nations has declared 2010 as International Year of Biodiversity to highlight the devastation of the world’s species. Human activities are driving species to extinction and the loss is compounded by climate change. An October summit in Japan could lead to a treaty to save the earth's species, giving governments a chance to do for biodiversity what they failed to do for climate change.
